Legal Update

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Please take some time to read Bishop Menees’ letter that is included in this mailing. It is with sadness that I send this to you. It seems that justice was not done. Though we had every reason to believe what we did was legal, moral and unimpeachable (in three other states the very same cases are being heard for Anglican Dioceses that left TEC, and they have all won or are winning their cases), it seems that the courts in California will go another way than those in the rest of the nation.

I will say more about all this in my sermon this Sunday and we will keep you informed continually as to what is happening from here on out. There is no reason for panic. The judgement does not become final for at least 40 more days and our attorneys will work with TEC for even more time. There will be no panic and we will not be pushed out onto the street!

I and the transition team are working on both short term and long term solutions to buildings so that we have a minimum of discomfort or difficulty in the months ahead.

Please feel free to call us with questions and comments and to ask me anything that is on your mind in the days ahead. The Lord will not abandon us, but rather will reward us for our faithfulness to Him. Consider this Scripture:

But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on those in prison and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. (Hebrews 10:32ff)

Let us stay together, pray together, love one another, listen to one another, encourage one another and allow Jesus to fill our own lives as we keep our eyes on Him and overflow with love to one another so that He is always among us, always with us!

Much love in Jesus,

Fr. Carlos
